The invention relates to thyroid dysgenesis (TD), and more specifically to a method for diagnosis an increased likelihood of developing a TD based on specific polymorphisms of the FOXE1 gene in a tissue sample (DNA) obtained from an individual. Such method could include a kit for determining the length of the polyalanine repeat of the protein encoded by at least one allele of the FOXE1 gene.

Actually, it stills exists a need for identifying a likelihood of developing a thyroid dysgenesis in a subject, more specifically a likelihood of a foetus of developing a TD.
