| Use of a plant extract with whitening and skin care properties
|
| Women from the island of Madagascar traditionaly use a facial mask made from the macerated root of an endemic hardy bush, to beautify and smooth their skin. Our laboratory has extracted and identified from this plant, several compounds with antiradical and antioxidative properties.
|
| |
| Technical Description : |
The laboratory has shown that Radamaea montana, plant extracts from roots and especially from leaves and seeds are rich with antioxydative compounds. Flavonoids and xanthones have been extracted from leaves and apocarotenoids from seeds.
Plant extracts also inhibit tyrosinase activity. This enzyme is implicated in melanin biosynthesis and the appearance of aging and acne skin marks, natural or pathologic skin pigmentations. The antioxydative activity of plant extracts is particularly interesting to develop cosmetics compositions for anti-aging skin care, sun protection and repair, skin whitening, etc. |
| |
| Potential applications : |
Cosmetics: anti-aging skin care creams, whitening creams, protecting day skin creams, antiradical repair shampoo, hair masks, sun protection creams/milks…
Dermatology: natural or pathologic anti-hyperpigmentation creams, anti-acne skin marks creams… |
| |
| Benefits : |
Today madagascan women use Radamaea montana roots to make their beauty mask. Active extracts of the plant can also be obtained from stems, flowers, fruits, leaves and seeds. Advantageously, extracts from leaves and seeds do not lead to plant death and are particularly rich with active compounds.
Plant extracts are active enough, compared to isolated compounds, to be used directely in cosmetics compositions. |
| |
| Development : |
| The laboratory has identified and characterized 19 compounds extracted from the Radamaea montana plant. 3 compounds are new. Plant extracts have antioxidative properties and inhibit tyrosinase activity. |
